Waiting on Dreams

So it happens that very often we wish and wait and pray and hope for the things we want in life. We give birth to our secret dreams as we set them off to sail on the ocean of manifestation. Sometimes we feel they are lost at sea and will never return to us in full form. We feel as though we have cast our dreams out into the void but our dreams are heard and if we are true in heart with good intentions, they sometimes come back in full abundance in some form of what we desired.

It can take years, decades, before we see the fruits of our dreams manifested and when they finally arrive, even with all the waiting, working and preparing that we have done, we are caught unaware at the moment of arrival as the dreams we sought wash over us in a wave of plenty.

Keep heart when waiting on dreams; they will return to the faithful and when they come, be grateful and glad in heart.

Haleakala: A Holy House of the Sun

Sacred Sites, Sacred Travel
by Cheryl Bruedigam

Searching for Paradise?  You will have to travel a good distance to get to it but it is well worth the time.  Where?  To the top of Haleakala Crater.  Located on the east side of the island of Maui, in the Hawaiian Islands, Haleakala Crater rises 10,023 feet above sea level below and was aptly named the House of the Sun by early Hawaiians though it could just as easily be called Holy Akala because it is indeed a most sacred and magical site, highly important the Hawaiian religious beliefs.

The crater is approximately seven miles across, two miles wide and twenty-six hundred feet deep.  It is an amazing sight and feeling to stand on the very top, looking both down to the depths below and out to the horizon beyond surrounded by nothing but pristine Pacific ocean for as far as the eye can see.  One does truly feel that one has reached the ends of the earth (or perhaps the beginning of Earth).

My trip began with a morning at the beach followed by a drive up to Haleakala.  An unsuspecting tourist, after my morning at the beach, I was clad only in a bikini and a towel for a wrap.  As our rental car made the climb to the summit, the temperature began to drop lower and lower.  Though down below we knew that on that August day, it was a lovely, if not overly warm in-the-nineties day on the beach.  Not so on the road to Haleakala.  Higher we climbed. And definitely not so at the top.  So traveler be warned, if you plan to venture up, throw something long sleeve or long legged at least in the car, though I can assure you it is the only time in Hawaii that you will need it, or just brave the cold in your skivvies.

Our arrival at the top was greeted by a lone but very friendly, park ranger.  He quickly gave us our guidelines and as many know, at 9,740 feet, the Haleakala Visitor Center is the best place to watch the Haleakala sunrise.  We however arrived in early afternoon but were not short-changed. It felt like we were standing in heaven, standing right among the sky and the beautiful white puffy clouds, so close you try to touch them.  It was awe-inspiring and has always remained the very top vacation spot on my list.  Little can compare to the view and experience of standing high atop Haleakala Crater; feeling both special and isolated, yet completely connected to all that is.

Whether you stay in Hana, Lahina, Kahana or anywhere else on the island, with a visit to Haleakala, your visit to Maui will become even more magical and will be an experience that will remain with you always.

 Namaste and Aloha!

How Prayer Pose in Mountain Can Help

No matter what ails you, whether it is stress, anxiety, upset, fear, physical challenges, or any other number of things, taking a moment to stand with prayer pose in mountain pose will balance, heal and uplift you.

Mountain pose in itself is strengthening, yet calming, but the addition of prayer pose (hands in the prayer position whether at the chest, behind the back or over the head) will bring in instant unity with the Spirit and the Source within. All negativity and unbalance will fade away and you will be able to shift into alignment with All that Is.

To get into mountain pose:

Pose of the Mountain - Tadasana
In the standing position stand as straight and tall as possible, eyes straight ahead, body tall and stretched, shoulders back.  Feet a couple inches apart.  Imagine a light string pulling your head and neck as high and straight as possible.  Upper torso is straight, legs straight.

Now add prayer pose:

Hands in prayer position in front of the chest, over the head or behind the back. Relax into the pose. Breath in and exhale.  Repeat ten times, straightening further with each complete breath. The hands in prayer position will give you a strong focal point and you will be able to feel yourself drawing in the fresh,, clean, balanced energy.

The beauty of this combination is that it is so powerful yet so easy to do most anywhere, any time. It may also be done seated at a desk or wherever but is more powerful when performed in the standing position.

You will feel calmed, strengthened, renewed, balanced and aligned. Repeat when necessary, whenever and wherever.

Let the Day Begin

Whether or not you are at the beach, nothing beats starting your day off with a morning yoga routine. Even if you do not have time for a full practice, just a few quick poses can really get you going; get the blood circulating after the night's sleep, move the air deeply into the lungs and wake up the body.

Try a morning sun salutation for a quick morning wake-up and if you can get out with the sunrise, even better!

Sand Dollar and Shell Beaded Necklace

Just completed, this sand dollar and shell beaded necklace is available in my Aloha Body Mind and Soul line in my shop, Designs by Cheryl B.

Though sand dollars are not native to Hawaii from what I have read, they are plentiful around the coastal regions of the world including both North and South America, Africa, Europe and the British Isles.

They are referred to as sand "dollars" because they appeared to look like large golden coins in the water.

This is one of my favorite pieces ever. It is stunning when worn (I have to admit I did give it a test run or two) as you can see from the photo.

Due to the natural element of the sand dollar, it is more fragile than other pendants but with proper wear and care, it should last a long time.

I am so inspired by sea-life and natural pieces from the sea in designing my jewelry. I have worked with other shells but this was my first sand dollar.

Go with the Flow this Week

Sending peaceful waves of thought to you today with blessings for a beautiful week!

Go with the flow this week like the ocean's gentle waves. Follow the rhythmic course of your own soul-purpose and you will stay in sync with all that is. The ability to ride the waves of life will always carry you where you need to be and keep you in control and alignment of your spirit. It is when we resist that we struggle and start to experience that drowning sensation. Allow yourself to ride the waves of life.

Aloha for a beautiful, peace-filled week!

Create, Manifest and Move Mountains with the Power of Hawaiian Goddess Pele

Pele – Hawaiian Goddess of Fire, Wind, Lightening and Volcanoes
Create, Manifest and Move Mountains with the Power of Hawaiian Goddess Pele

by Cheryl Yale-Bruedigam

Pele by Hrana-Janto

Pele is considered to be the creator of the Hawaiian Islands. She creates and manifests the very land itself into being. She is a powerful energy that when called upon will help you to enhance your creativity, light your fire of passion or help you to shift and overcome any obstacles that may be blocking your way.

Pele’s power relates to the solar plexus or the third chakra, Manipura, which is the seat of our will, our power, our creativity and our Divine energy flow. From this point, this place of energetic creation, Pele can help you to stream your energy through your system to all points for greater strength and determination. Coupled with her powerful attributes, you too can harness the ability to channel the creative life force within you.

Before working with this, be sure to release any and all negativity through meditation or relaxation. When you begin to direct and receive this Divine feminine energy, you want to be free of any negativity so that the flow is pure, radiant and unblocked. To release any negativity, lie or sit in relaxation with eyes closed and visualize all negative, toxic energy releasing through your fingertips, vaporizing into the air.

Now to harness on the creative energy of Pele.
Here is a helpful request to get you started:

Pele, goddess of fire and creation, Pele of the sacred land, inspire me to create that which I desire in my heart that is of goodness to my self and to all, that I may do the work of my spirit with the power to shift and manifest all that is needed. Strengthen my will to remove or overcome any obstacles in my life so that I might fulfill my destiny as I am so divinely inspired. Mahalo.

 *********************************************************************************
Author’s note:
As is noted by famed mythologist, Joseph Campbell, it is important to understand that spiritual deities are representations of the psyche that when worked with, help us to improve those attributes with which they are associated. Do not allow superstition to cause assumptions as to think that any “worship” is involved here. Invoking the Divine feminine spirit that already resides within each of us is part of a healthy, balanced, spiritual practice as She comes in many forms through all variations of cultural goddesses including the Virgin Mary and so many more.

Journaling to Heal, Grow and Set New Goals in 3 Easy Steps

Do you have to be a writer to start a journal? No. Journaling is a soul-healing process that will help you on your journey in life.

In addition to capturing moments or thoughts that you will forget, it provides you with an outlet to vent, to dream, to question and to think. By recording these things, it will help you to identify thought patterns that may need to be corrected, help you to set goals, and help you to become the best person that you can be.

You will find your inner light and strength as you begin to journal. Just follow these three easy steps

  1. Allow the flow to come through and let it all out. This is the  healing process.
  2. Go back to read, study and note things over periods of time, This is the growth process.
  3. Notice if you are moving forward or going in circles. This is the goal setting process.

These simple steps will help you on the road to becoming the best version of you. Journal with plenty of self-love, aloha, for yourself. this is your space to nurture and to heal. As you heal and grow and begin to set new goals, you will have more love to share with others.

Malas Inspired by the Sea

Whether you use a mala for meditation or to wear, my malas are beautifully inspired by the sea, beaded in faux pearls and decorated with a shell pendant.

In meditation they provide the calming reminder of the ocean's greatness; that we are one with it all and that we are also but a drop in the sea. Make your prayers or affirmations around the mala onto each bead.

Wear your mala as a gentle reminder of your own inner spiritual sea or as a bold beach fashion statement.

Stunning and natural. Malas from the sea.  Aloha.

Honu - Sea Turtle

Honu - Sea Turtle: symbolizes good luck, endurance and long life. (OluKai)

If you are lost, Honu will help you find your way home.

Honu is the Hawaiian word for sea turtle. They are also viewed as the spirits of ancestors returned to hellp or watch over and guide those still here. This is known as known as “Aumakua.”

Do you have an Aumakua?

Sharing this magical video of the honu from Aloha Stoked.

A New Dream

Sometimes in life, we reach a place of in-between; in between the old and the new. We feel the rush of the new possibilities yet we have not yet released the old patterns, karmic ties or loose ends.

When you feel that inkling that something new is on the horizon, it is time to release all that has gone before. Take with you the love and the lessons and be ready to open to receive a new and better way. Embrace the feeling of uncertainty and allow your spirit to follow its lead into the unknown. Trust in the guidance and intuition of your soul. There will be new dreams and new adventures. Release any fear and be open to the magic of life. Aloha.

Becoming Your Peace

Finding your peace is one thing, it can be the easy part. Becoming your peace, being your peace, can be another thing entirely.

We can find our inner peace in quiet time, in prayer or meditation or in nature or immersed in any activity in which we are passionate or in being with a loved one. Keeping, and becoming this peace is the tricky part as we become distracted by external people or situations, stress, upset, fears or any other negative feelings.

Learning to steer the mind back to the places of peace is the answer and with practice it can be easily done at any time. Meditation will help to develop and strengthen this ability as you realize that you have the power to create and travel within yourself anywhere, any time. Before you know it, you will not only have discovered your peace but you will become your peace.

Aloha for a peaceful Sunday!

Time to Come into Your Warrior Power

Add personal confidence to your day with this easy, simple but powerful pose,
Warrior II, Virabhadrasana. And when you need to, call upon the warrior within.

The Warrior II
Stand in Mountain pose. Inhale and move feet three and one half to four feet apart. Turn left foot to angle, turn head to left. Stretch the arms out parallel to the floor with left arm toward left leg and right arm stretched behind you.  Inhale and bend left leg to right angle, looking straight down to finger tip of middle finger as you exhale.  Align your heels. Make sure that your knee is not further out than the toes so that you are not overextending.  Shin should be perpendicular to floor. Hold for at least four breaths.  Repeat on other side. Return to normal standing position (pose of the mountain, tadasana).
Alternate pose: Come back up on the exhalation and go back into the pose on the inhalation.

Repeat for right side.  Return to normal standing position (pose of the mountain).

(do nnot practice this pose if you have high blood pressure)

Color Therapy with Blue and Tropical Indigo

This illustration contains a mix of blues and tropical indigo

blues

This week’s colors in color therapy are bright royal blue and tropical indigo.

Bright royal blue represents: Clairvoyance; a highly spiritual nature; generous; on the right path; and that new opportunities are coming

Blue relates to the third chakra of communication. This can mean that you will be involved in more communications than usual or to increase your clarity in your communications. In addition to communication to others, it can relate to communications with the self, with God and spiritual thoughts and communications. Take the time out to commune with Spirit on a higher level through whatever personal means suit you. In these spiritual communications be sure to listen as well for new messages, directions or insights. Blue is the color of the sky, which is air and also represents thoughts and communications so be sure to keep your thoughts positive.

Blue is also the color of the sea and water represents the emotions and the inner soul. It is a time for peace and contemplation. Keep your emotions in check, making sure that you are not over-reacting to people or situations. The emotional aspect of this week’s blue may help you to release old feelings that may be just below the surface of consciousness.

Tropical indigo is very close to lavender but with more blue. Indigo itself, relates to the third eye or the sixth chakra, visual and pituitary gland. Intuitive, sensitive, deep feeling.

There is a feeling of a deeper connection and a sense of an opening to reach it. You may receive dreams, guidance or stronger intuitive feelings this week. To increase the opening of the sixth chakra, take time for meditation, listen to chakra-balancing music or do some yoga. Indigo relates the need (and the ability) to go deeper within yourself to the God-source.

The lightness in shade of tropical indigo lends even more in spiritual awareness with self-confidence needed to achieve spiritual and personal goals. It can also represent a coming into understanding of who you really are. It is very etheric and imaginative.

If you would like to add gemstones to magnify these properties, add lapis lazuli, sapphire, blue sapphire, geodes or jasper.

Colors can help you to be the best version of you if you put them to use and watch for the patterns.

Sending you aloha and wishes for a colorful week!

Aloha and Namaste

Aloha - Namaste

Although it has evolved into a greeting, aloha is much like the Sanskrit "namaste." According to gohawaii, "The literal meaning of aloha is “the presence of breath” or “the breath of life.” It comes from “Alo,” meaning presence, front and face, and “ha,” meaning breath. Aloha is a way of living and treating each other with love and respect. Its deep meaning starts by teaching ourselves to love our own beings first and afterwards to spread the love to others.

According to the old kahunas (priests), being able to live the Spirit of Aloha was a way of reaching self-perfection and realization for our own body and soul. Aloha is sending and receiving a positive energy. Aloha is living in harmony. When you live the Spirit of Aloha, you create positive feelings and thoughts, which are never gone. They exist in space, multiply and spread over to others."

What a beautiful word and tradition and so very similar to namaste, which in Sanskrit means the universe in me honors the universe in you, and has also evolved into a greeting of respect towards others.

Aloha and Namaste,
